I love a good peanut cluster, but when I tried these chocolate raisin walnut clusters…
Let’s just say the peanuts have taken the back seat for awhile.
The combination of the sweet, fruity raisins and the crunchy walnuts.
I’ll stop, but you get the point. These are really, really good.

how to make chocolate raisin walnut clusters
To a large bowl, add 1 pound of raisins (or a scant 3 cups) and 1 pound of chopped walnuts (or 4 cups).
To a separate medium sized bowl, add 5 cups of semi-sweet chocolate chips and 2 tablespoons of coconut oil.
Microwave the chocolate, stopping and stirring it every 30 seconds. Continue this until all of the chocolate is melted.
Pour the melted chocolate over the raisins and walnuts.
Stir really well until everything is combined.
Using a cookie scoop or two spoons, drop small mounds of chocolate mixture onto a baking sheet that is lined with parchment paper.
Continue this until all of the chocolate mixture is used up.
Let the chocolate clusters set at room temperature until hardened, about 1 hour.
Take the clusters off of the parchment paper and enjoy, give to friends, or hide in your closet:)
notes on scooping the chocolate clusters
There are several methods you can use to form your chocolate clusters.
two spoons
Use two spoons, as in the kind you would eat dinner off of. With one spoon, scoop up a good sized mound of the chocolate mixture, then, using the other spoon, scape the chocolate off the spoon and into a neat pile.
cookie scoop
Using a cookie scoop, scoop nice size mounds of chocolate mixture onto the baking sheet. Make sure not to pack the chocolate in like you would if it was a cookie, as you want the chocolate clusters more spread out.
ice cream scoop
Grab an ice cream scoop and scoop up the prepared chocolate mixture on the baking sheet just like it was ice cream. Make sure to not pack the scoop tight with chocolate though.
directions for melting chocolate in a double boiler
Add 1 inch of water to a saucepan. Bring the water to a simmer over medium low heat.
Place the chocolate chips and coconut oil into a medium sized glass mixing bowl.
Place the bowl over the simmering water. Make sure that the bowl fits into and covers the saucepan opening.
Stir the chocolate until it is fully melted.
Continue the recipe as directed.
Decorating ideas
Of course, there are always lots of ways to make food look even better!
Try adding a drizzle of white chocolate over the clusters. You can add the drizzle immediately after you get done dropping the clusters onto the baking sheet, or wait until they are dry.
Add a pop of color to your chocolate raisin walnut clusters by sprinkling on some sprinkles as soon as you are finished scooping the clusters.
Other variations
If you would like to mix up these chocolate raisin walnut clusters even more, there are lots more options.
Feeling really wild? Just add in about 7 cups of trail mix instead of the raisins and walnuts.
nuts
Other nuts that would be good in chocolate clusters would be pecans, sliced almonds, hazelnuts or pistachios.
You can even mix and match and use with other nuts and seeds. Substitute in some shredded coconut, sunflower seeds, pumpkin seeds, chia seeds, or flax seeds for some of the nuts.
dried fruit
You are definitely not limited to only using raisins! Substitute in dried cranberries, chopped dried apricots, chopped prunes, figs, or dates.
chocolate
This recipe calls for semi-sweet chocolate chips. Feel free to use dark chocolate, milk chocolate, semi-sweet chocolate or a combination of them.
You could even use white chocolate!
