Non-toxic toothpaste can be quite expensive. We’re talking at least 5 dollars a tube, but usually more.
That being said, making your own homemade toothpaste is one of the easiest personal care products to make.
I really enjoy making my own toothpaste. Toothpaste is super easy to modify too, which makes it a very versatile easy swap you can make.
If a toothpaste is too gritty, you can change that, if it is too runny, you can change that, too!
I already have a recipe for how to make toothpaste with bentonite clay, but if you are looking for an even simpler recipe than that, you have found it!
With just two ingredients and a few minutes, you can have your homemade toothpaste ready to go.
Because there are so many different ingredients you can make toothpaste with, I like to rotate the toothpaste recipes I use.
I’ll make one batch of bentonite clay toothpaste, then I’ll make baking soda toothpaste the next time.
Put some salt in one batch, and skip it next batch.
You can play around with the recipes you use for all of you natural personal care products until you find your favorites.
If that sounds confusing to you, just pick your favorite recipe for homemade non-toxic toothpaste and stick with it!

Why make your own toothpaste?
Regular toothpaste you can buy at the store can have a lot of ingredients that are not great for your teeth.
Some of these ingredients may not necessarily be toxic, but still, they are chemicals that are considered ‘safe’.
Definitely use your own discretion concerning whether you feel comfortable using these ingredients or not.
Here are just a few of the ingredients in a conventional tube of toothpaste.
Fluoride: a highly toxic ingredient that is known to cause health issues such as birth defects, cancer and renal and kidney issues.
Artificial Coloring: is known to cause hypersensitivity, increase intestinal permeability (leaky gut), and also interferes with our bodies digestive enzymes.
Sodium Lauryl Sulfate: considered safe but also suspected to have some toxic and harmful side effects.
Titanium Dioxide: considered slightly harmful and toxic and may cause cancer.
Cocamidopropyl Betaine: considered safe unless it is not rinsed off the skin.
