There are many evenings that we have different things going on, whether it be church or another social outing.
I love getting to do and go to the different activities we have the privilege go to.
The one problem I find though, is after a long day of working outside, or even inside without the air conditioner, I have a slight grease issue with my hair.
This wouldn’t be a problem if I planned ahead and noticed that I have an issue before we need to be heading out the door.
I usually glance in the mirror right before we need to leave and realize I should have taken a shower before now.
The only option is to take a really fast shower, or go out with greasy hair.
I decided I would like to try using some dry shampoo, but didn’t want to spend the money or use the chemicals on my hair.
This is why I decided to make my own natural dry shampoo powder!
This recipe is an easy, effective, natural dry shampoo that smells great and is very cost effective!

Why use dry shampoo
If you are running late and don’t have time for a shower, dry shampoo can be a great option for slightly dirty or greasy hair.
This recipe is especially helpful in the summer when you are sweating a lot throughout the day.
If you are trying to train your hair to go longer in between washes, this natural dry shampoo can really help you stretch the amount of time in between washes.
Also, dry shampoo adds a little bit more texture to your hair, making it a great way to keep your hairstyle in place.

What can make your hair greasy
Greasy hair is not a fun thing to deal with. The only fix for greasy hair is really to keep washing it.
However, if you are someone who has to wash your hair every day, or even twice a day, you may be looking for a solution to help slow down the grease production!
Some of the things that can make your hair greasy are:
- hormone fluctuations
- medications
- weather changes
- heat and sweating
- stress
- ineffective hair care
- improper eating habits
So, in other words, LIFE:)
How to apply dry shampoo
What to use:
For the easiest application, you can use a makeup brush. A brush that you typically would use for applying blush will work the best.
You can also use a paint brush if you do not own any makeup brushes.
Or you can even use a new toothbrush or a clean hairbrush.
To apply:
Dip your brush of choice into your natural dry shampoo powder.
Divide your hair into sections and start applying the powder to the roots of your hair. You will want to brush this through only the greasy sections of your hair. You will only need to use a little bit, so start with a very small amount.
Allow the powder to sit on your hair for 1-2 minutes.
After the powder has sat on your hair for a minute or two, begin working your hands through your hair, starting at the scalp.
Brush through your hair and style as normal.

When should you use this
You will want to have clean hair when using this recipe.
The point of using dry shampoo is definitely not to replace washing your hair!
The purpose of dry shampoo is only to allow you to go longer between washes for overly greasy hair.
It is best to only use dry shampoo twice a week, however, if you need to, you can use it every other day.
When should you stop using dry shampoo
If you begin to notice that your hair is creating some buildup, you will want to stop using dry shampoo.
Buildup can occur while using this product if you are using it too often, you are not washing your hair frequently enough, or you are sweating a lot.
To get rid of hair buildup, use a rinse of apple cider vinegar and water after washing your hair very well.

Which essential oils should I use?
You can use pretty much use any essential oil that you love! Some of my favorites for hair care are:
- peppermint – gives a cooling sensation and boosts circulation
- lavender – good for hair growth
- lemongrass – helps with dandruff
- rosemary – boosts hair growth and volume
- cedarwood – helps balance oil glands in the scalp, is antifungal
- lemon – adds shine and smells amazing
