Natural Foaming Hand Soap Ingredients
Liquid Castile Soap
Try to get a unscented liquid castile soap.
This makes it easy to switch up the smell of your soap and in case you have very sensitive skin, you can skip the fragrances all together.
Water
You can use plain tap water for this foaming hand soap, as long as you use the soap within one month.
If you want it to last even longer, use distilled water.

Essential Oil (optional)
Adding essential oils will give your hand soap a gentle and natural smell.
You can use any of your favorite essential oils in your foaming hand soap.
If you prefer a fragrance free soap, however, just skip the essential oils.
Here are some of my favorites EOs for soap:
Orange
This essential oil has cleansing and purifying properties, making it a great addition to your foaming soap.
It also adds a lovely citrus smell.
Lemon
Lemon essential oil has similar benefits to orange, as it is also purifying and cleansing while smelling citrusy and delicious.

Lemongrass
Lemongrass essential oil helps clean the skin and help prevent breakouts.
Lavender
If you or a loved one has very sensitive skin, try adding in some lavender essential oil.
Peppermint
This is perfect for around the Christmas/winter time holidays!
Peppermint essential oil helps purify your skin and pores.

why make your own foaming hand soap?
Reason 1: It’s cheap!
One bottle of liquid castile soap will last you a long time because you only need to use 1/4 cup of castile soap to make 12 ounces of foaming soap.
The other ingredients are also cost effective:)
Reason 2: It’s so easy to make!
You literally just have to pour the water into the bottle, add the essential oils and soap and screw on the lid.

The problem with antibacterial hand soap
Antibacterial soap contains an ingredient called triclosan.
Triclosan has been known in animal studies to mess up hormones, and the FDA says that they don’t know if they have the same effect on humans.
The FDA also says that you do not need to use antibacterial soap to wash your hands.
Plain soap and water will do just as well for preventing the spreading of diseases and infections.
Besides triclosan, there are usually some other not so good ingredients as well.
These may include fragrances and other chemicals that may have toxic effects on your body, as well as, dry out your skin.

Is foaming hand soap just watered down soap?
Yes, foaming hand soap is basically just watered down soap!
The reason foaming hand soap foams in the first place, is that the soap and water are mixed with air in the special foaming dispenser.
Foaming hand soap is especially handy for children just learning to wash their hands because they often use way more soap then they actually need.
Not to mention foaming hand soap is just way more fun to use then regular hand soap!
Can I use this recipe in a non-foaming soap container?
Yes, you absolutely can!
However, your soap will obviously not foam at all and it will be a bit more watery than you are used to.
It is still soap however, and will clean your hands just as effectively.

How long does homemade foaming soap last?
You will want to use your homemade natural foaming hand soap within 30 days.
This is because there is no preseravtives.
If you want your soap to last longer, however, replace the regular tap water with distilled water.

Natural Homemade Laundry Detergent Powder
How much laundry detergent do you use per load of your homemade detergent? I read and reread your article several, but couldn’t find it anywhere.
Hi Aly,
Thank you for letting me know!
I usually use 2 tablespoons of the detergent per load, as long as the load isn’t too large. It is a highly concentrated detergent, so a little goes a long way. If you have a larger load or it is extra dirty, use up to 1/4 cup.
