Some of favorite things to give as gifts are homemade beauty products. Whether it be a homemade coffee scrub, homemade chapstick, or some homemade bath bombs.
Bath salts can make a great last minute gift. It is one of the fastest, easiest personal care items you can whip up for a friend.
This bath salt recipe uses just two ingredients: peppermint (or spearmint) leaves and epsom salts.
The soothing smell of peppermint will leave you feeling rested and refreshed.
Peppermint leaves also may help you when you are not feeling the best, especially when you have a cold or flu bug. Peppermint helps soothe your stomach as well as helping open your airways.
Epsom salts have some great benefits as well! They will help you relax and promote rest as well as providing some vital nutrients to your body.

Epsom Salts
Epsom salts actually have a lot of benefits. Whether you’re using them to help flush toxins or metals out of your body or you are using them for their high levels of magnesium, epsom salts will help boost your health!
Magnesium is important for your body’s muscle and nerve function, proper immune system function as well as, heart health and blood pressure.
When your body is magnesium deficient, you may have issues such as, fatigue, muscle aches and cramps, headaches/migraines and high blood pressure.
Taking a bath in epsom salts is a great way to get magnesium into your body quickly, because the magnesium is absorbed readily through the skin.
One of my favorite parts about epsom salts is that they are also pretty cheap to come by. I highly recommend buying epsom salts in bulk because you will save a lot of money and you will have plenty on hand.

Peppermint Leaves
For this recipe you can use either peppermint leaves or spearmint leaves. You can use homegrown leaves, or buy some, or even just open a tea bag and dump it right in!
To dry your own peppermint or spearmint leaves, simply pick the leaves off of your mint plant. You can either wash the leaves or skip washing them if they are in an area that they don’t get watered by animals (if you know what I mean:).
Lay the leaves onto any kind of flat surface. This can be a screen (for best air flow) or even just a glass baking dish like I am using here.

Let the leaves sit in a well-ventilated area until fully dry, giving them a stir once or twice every day. The drying process will take around 3-5 days, depending on how many leaves you are drying at once.
To use your homegrown leaves in this recipe, simply crush them between your fingers and add to your epsom salts.

How to use bath salts for a bath
To use your homemade bath salts, fill your bathtub with warm water (to your preference). Add in one to two cups of your epsom salt bath mixture.
Stir the salt into the water. Soak in this mixture for 15-30 minutes at least, and up to 1 hour.
For maximum magnesium absorption, do not rinse off after you take a bath in bath salt.
