How to Make DIY disposable tea bags
The supplies
- coffee filters (8-12 cup basket style)
- stapler
- scissors
- paper
- cotton thread or baker’s twine
- loose leaf tea
instructions
Start by flattening a coffee filter.

Next, fold the filter in half.

Cut off part of the edge of the filter, about 1 inch from the largest spot.

Fold down the edges you just cut. You will want it folded down about 1/4 of an inch.

Fold down the edge again, 1/4 of an inch.

Now fold the filter in half crosswise.

Cut the rounded part of the filter off where it is the shortest.

Hold up the folded filter and pucker one side. It is now like a two-sided pouch.

Fill each ‘pouch’ with one teaspoon of tea and poke down with your finger. (Each tea bag will have a total of 2 teaspoons of tea in it.)

Lay the filled pouch on a flat surface. Take the end of the pouch that is open and fold down one edge. Repeat on the other side so that they meet in the middle. This will close the open end.

Cut a 7 inch piece of cotton thread or baker’s twine. Lay it under one flap of the pouch.

Close the flaps together.

Fold down the pointed edge so that it meets the bottom of the folded down edges.

Pull the thread upwards so that it is centered on the bag.

Staple the thread in place and the flaps down.

Now, cut a 1 inch by 2 inch piece of paper and fold it in half so that it is 1 inch by 1 inch.
Position it over the free end of the thread and staple in place.

You are done! Decorate, name, or leave your tag as is.
